If you wish to practise medicine in the field of physiotherapy, you must apply for a license to do so.

Authorization to practice medicine, restricted to the field of physiotherapy, may only be granted to persons who are in possession of a license to use the professional title of physiotherapist according to the masseur and physiotherapist law . In order to decide on the granting of a license to practice medicine professionally in the field of physiotherapy, all applications are first examined on the basis of the files. First of all the certificates submitted and any other evidence available of completed courses of study and additional training will be examined to determine whether and to what extent the restricted license to practice physiotherapy can be granted on the basis of the files. This always depends on the possible individual circumstances.

• Application for a license to practice medicine in the field of physiotherapy,
• identity card or passport,
• a birth certificate/name change certificate in the event of a name change,
• a curriculum vitae in tabular form,
• if applicable, a registration certificate (if the identification document is not an identity card),
• information from the Federal Central Register (document type 0),
• if applicable, a declaration from you stating whether criminal proceedings or a public prosecutor's investigation are pending against you (self-disclosure),
• proof of authorization to use the professional title of physiotherapist,
• proof of further education and training, completed courses of study or training qualifications in the areas of differential diagnostics and professional and legal knowledge,
• proof of four years of professional activity as a physiotherapist (with an average of at least 30 hours of work per week) as an officially certified photocopy (proof from the employer or certificate from the tax consultant),
• a certificate from a registered doctor.

Additionally, if the verification is carried out on file:

• Proof of professional training in physiotherapy,
• 40-hour curriculum to close the normative knowledge gap,
• Proof of at least five years of professional activity (period specified) as a physiotherapist, at least half-time (hours per week specified),
• Proof of completed training and further training.

Note: The competent body reserves the right to request an overview of the written assessment of the 60 hours of further training.

You must

• Be at least 25 years old,
• be able to prove physical and mental aptitude for practicing medicine in the field of physiotherapy by means of a medical certificate,
• be able to prove the reliability required for practicing medicine in the field of physiotherapy by means of an official certificate of good conduct,
• be able to provide evidence of four years of professional experience (with an average of at least 30 hours of work per week) be able to provide evidence of four years of professional experience (with an average of at least 30 hours of work per week)

Is based on the respective administrative fee schedule of the federal state or on the fee statutes of the authorities responsible under federal state law.

• You submit the application to practise medicine, including all the necessary documents, to the competent body.
• The competent authority checks whether all requirements have been met
• If the examination is positive, you will be granted a license.

If you have applied for permission to exercise, the competent authority will decide on this in a timely manner.

Appeal (appeal may be excluded depending on national law), administrative court action

• The granting of a license to practice medicine in the field of physiotherapy is reserved exclusively for persons who are in possession of a license to use the professional title of physiotherapist.
