You can apply for permanent residence in Germany for your child/children.
The following requirements must be met:
- Your child was born in Germany or
- moved to Germany with or to you as a minor/underage
and
- Your child has held a residence permit for at least 5 years and
- has reached the age of 16.

If you are not in school, vocational or academic training: Proof of a secure livelihood, such as- Employment contract, employer's certificate of employment without notice (not older than 14 days) and payslips since the last residence permit was issued or
- Documents relating to income from self-employment.
- In the case of minors without a school or vocational training relationship, proof of support from their parents must be submitted.
- Proof of education (original and copy)
The following must be submitted- for pupils: all school reports and a current school certificate
- for trainees: the training contract, training certificates and a current certificate from the training position
- for students: a current certificate of enrollment and proof of study progress (passed intermediate examinations, credit points)
- If required: written authorization from a parent
- In the case of joint custody, the parents must appear together and submit the application for their minor child jointly
- If a parent with custody is unable to appear in person, they must issue the other parent with custody with a written power of attorney. With this power of attorney, the other parent can apply for a residence permit for the joint child.
Personal appearance together with the parents
- Children aged 16 to 17 may not submit the application themselves. They must therefore be accompanied by at least one legal representative.
