Would you like to live in Germany indefinitely? Under certain conditions, as a foreign national you can apply for an EC permanent residence permit. This allows you to move more freely within the European Union (EU).
With the EC permanent residence permit, foreign nationals can move more freely within the European Union (EU). It is equivalent to a settlement permit in many respects and is a permanent residence permit.
If you meet the requirements, you can apply for a so-called permit for permanent residence in Germany.
The foreigners authority in your place of residence is responsible for this.
- Proof of fulfillment of passport and visa requirements
- Proof that you have been living in Germany with a residence permit for at least 5 years without interruption
- Proof of secure livelihood
- Proof of health insurance cover
- Proof of paid pension insurance contributions or payments to a comparable pension scheme
- Proof of sufficient knowledge of German and basic knowledge of the German legal and social system
- Proof of sufficient living space for you and your family
- Proof that there are no grounds for deportation against you
- a current photograph (biometric photo in accordance with the Bundesdruckerei GmbH photo sample table)
- Your identity has been established and you fulfill the passport and visa requirements.
- You have been living in Germany with a residence permit for at least 5 years without interruption.
- Your livelihood and that of your dependents to whom you provide support is secured by regular income.
- You are insured in the statutory health insurance scheme or have unlimited health insurance cover.
- You have paid contributions into the statutory pension insurance scheme or another pension scheme with comparable benefits.
- You have sufficient knowledge of German and basic knowledge of the German legal and social system.
- You have sufficient living space for yourself and your family.
- There are no grounds for deportation against you.
- Permanent residence in the EU is possible for foreign nationals under certain conditions
- The EC permanent residence permit is unlimited
