Means of warfare are objects and parts thereof intended for warfare or formerly intended for warfare. Such ordnance includes, in particular, bombs, mines, rockets, bazookas, artillery, rifle and hand grenades, military cartridge ammunition and military explosives and detonators dating from the First (1914-18) and Second (1939-45) World Wars.

As such military ordnance can be stored almost indefinitely, it can remain explosive for several decades. Often, explosive ordnance is no longer recognizable as such. They may be rusted or encrusted with soil.

If you believe you have found explosive ordnance, please inform the regulatory authority, the police or the explosive ordnance clearance service at the Darmstadt Regional Council (+49 6151 12-6511) immediately, regardless of whether you find explosive ordnance on your own property or in publicly accessible places such as forests. Explosive ordnance must never be touched, moved or picked up, but must be left where it is found.
