Almost every city has counselling centres for people with addiction problems. Trained and experienced counsellors work there: psychologists, social workers, doctors. Directly affected persons, relatives and, above all, parents can turn to these offices. Some of these counselling centres specialise in addictions to certain addictive substances or behavioural addictions (e.g. gambling addiction, excessive media consumption).
The counselling centres work free of charge. During the consultation, the confidential information is not passed on to the police. On request, all conversations are anonymous. Just like doctors, addiction counselors are obliged to remain silent even when it comes to illegal drugs.
Further information on drugs and addiction:
In the telephone directory you will find counselling centres at:
- the keywords addiction counselling centre, psychosocial counselling centre or youth and drug counselling centre
- Welfare associations, e.g. Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO), Caritasverband, Der Paritätische Hessen, Deutsches Rotes Kreuz or Diakonisches Werk
- Local health departments
In addition, many schools have a so-called "addiction counselor". This is an educator who has the task of helping students with drug or addiction problems. She or he can help with the selection of suitable offers or give support to find a way out of addiction.
The addresses of addiction counselling centres in Hesse can also be obtained via the address database of the "Hessische Landesstelle für Suchtfragen e.V".
