If you are 15 years or older, you are allowed to drive a moped on public roads. To do this, you must have a so-called "moped test certificate". You will receive this if you have successfully completed theoretical and practical moped training and have passed the required theoretical examination.
Exception:
- Anyone who has reached the age of 15 before 01.04.1980 does not need a driving license or a moped test certificate to drive a moped.
- You also do not need a moped test certificate if you hold a valid German driver's license of any category or have a valid foreign driving license that entitles you to drive motor vehicles in Germany.
The training certificate must be brought along to the examination registration.
You must always carry the moped inspection certificate (or your driver's license) with you when driving a moped.
If you lose the moped test certificate, you must contact the inspection centre that issued the test certificate to issue a replacement test certificate.
If you have not yet reached the age of 18, the consent of your legal guardian is required. A corresponding field is available on the application of the TÜH.
The theoretical and practical moped training is regularly carried out by driving schools. After completing the moped training, you will receive a training certificate.
For admission to the theoretical moped test, you must submit the corresponding application to the Technical Inspection Centre (in Hesse at the State Technical Inspection Hesse - TÜH -) and submit your training certificate. After successfully passing the test, you will be issued the moped test certificate there.
