Note
Vehicles with the green license plate may not be used for other purposes. If the vehicle is used for any other purpose, this is an offense against the tax law and can be prosecuted.
Certain vehicles exempt from vehicle tax have license plates with green lettering and a green border on a white background. These include vehicles belonging to non-profit organizations, agricultural and forestry vehicles and certain trailers.
If the requirements for a green license plate are no longer met, the responsible main customs office can impose a vehicle tax. From this point on, the green license plate is invalid and must be changed to black.
The same documents that (depending on the transaction) must otherwise also be submitted for the registration of a new vehicle, a decommissioned vehicle or when a vehicle is re-registered to another owner.
For details, see there; for the reservation of a preferred license plate.
With regard to the desired tax exemption, it is advisable to bring the corresponding notification from the pension office/the corresponding confirmation from the responsible main customs office; for further information, please contact your registration authority.
The application for the allocation of a green license plate must be submitted to the registration authority in connection with the registration of the vehicle. If your registration authority requires an application form, you can usually obtain this in advance from the registration authority or, depending on what the authority offers, you can download it from the Internet.
Contact the registration office in your district or city. Responsibility depends on the place of residence of the vehicle owner (main residence according to the identity card).
In the case of legal entities, it is the registered office of the main branch or the registered office of the branch; this also applies to a general partnership, limited partnership or a registered merchant.
If you appoint a third party, they will need a written power of attorney from you; they must also present your identity document (original) to the registration office. The third party must have the appropriate identity document with them to prove their identity.
