When a foster child is admitted, a one-off lump sum is granted and transferred with the first care allowance.
When taking in a foster child, foster carers receive one-off and flat-rate allowances/benefits.

When taking in a foster child, foster carers receive a one-off flat-rate allowance.
The allowance covers
- the renovation and initial furnishing of a room for the foster child
- the initial provision of school supplies,
- the initial provision of a bicycle, child seat, helmet, etc.
The amount is paid out with the first care allowance. A separate application is not required.
When a child is admitted up to the age of one, an additional lump sum can be granted upon informal application (initial equipment for infants).
Needs in excess of these amounts are covered by the current care allowance.
- Initial equipment with clothing
- When a foster child is admitted, a one-off, age-dependent lump sum is paid for initial clothing.
- If the foster child was in an external youth welfare measure lasting more than 6 months before being admitted to the foster family, the allowance is reduced to half of the lump sum.
The allowance is paid out with the first care allowance. An application is not required
- Existing full-time care relationship

No applications are required for initial housing and clothing allowances.
The amounts are paid out with the first payment of the monthly lump sums.
An informal application is sufficient for initial baby equipment. You can submit the application digitally via the "pflegekinderwesen-digital" online service using the "Informal applications" form.
