If you require a certificate of competence for fumigation activities, you can apply for this from the competent authority.
If you require a certificate of competence to carry out fumigation, you can apply for this from the competent authority.
Once you have submitted your application, the competent authority will check it and then contact you. If your application is successful, the certificate of competence will be sent to you by post.
The certificate of competence is valid for a maximum of six years. The period of validity can be extended by six years at a time. The prerequisite for extending the period of validity of the certificate of competence is a recognized further training course before the period of validity expires.
A certificate of competence can be issued for fumigation or for the use of biocidal products or plant protection products.
The Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS) contain more detailed provisions on what must be observed during fumigation, depending on the fumigant and type of fumigation.
- Proof of minimum age of 18 years.
- Proof of the applicant's reliability by submitting a police clearance certificate according to document type O.
- Proof of the language skills required to carry out the job safely.
- Proof of suitable vocational training or comparable professional qualification
- Certificate from a doctor in accordance with Section 7 (1) of the Ordinance on Occupational Health Care, certifying that the applicant is physically and mentally fit to handle the fumigant. The certificate must not be older than one year at the time of the application for the certificate of competence.
- Certificate of successful participation in an officially recognized training course to impart the expertise required to carry out the intended fumigation. Proof of specific expertise associated with the activity (through successful participation in an expertise course recognized by the competent authority; proof of expertise for fumigation).
- Certificate of instruction on the safe and proper operation of fumigation equipment or systems and on participation in fumigation/fumigation.
- In the case of fumigation in accordance with TRGS 512 or TRGS 522, proof of first aider training is also required.

The permit must be applied for before fumigation is carried out for the first time.
The certificate of competence is valid for a maximum of six years. The period of validity may be extended by six years at a time if the above requirements are met and the holder of the certificate of competence has completed a training course in accordance with Annex I No. 4.4 (5) before the expiry of the period of validity.
In order to be able to carry out fumigation, a permit is required, which is issued by the responsible departments for occupational health and safety technology in the regional councils.
The employer must notify the competent authority of fumigation at least one week before it is carried out.
