If you receive social assistance or basic security and have just had a baby, the social welfare office bears the costs of counselling sessions.
In the first months and years of their child's life, many parents experience situations that unsettle, worry or overwhelm them.
Health Care offers advice to mothers and fathers, for example on questions such as:
- insatiable crying and frequent restlessness of the infant
- Difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep
- Problems with breastfeeding, feeding, and eating
- Behavioral problems such as excessive anger and fits of defiance, anxiety or aggressiveness, unwillingness to play
- Separation anxiety and difficulties
- tense family situation
- Relationship problems
- Excessive demands, uncertainty and exhaustion
- Postnatal depression
- Application for health assistance
- Identity card or passport (or other documents that can identify the person beyond doubt)
The competent social assistance institution shall provide information on the documents required in individual cases.
Health aids are given to persons,
- who do not have statutory or sufficient private health insurance,
- the provision of benefits via the health insurance fund (§ 264 Abs. 4 SGB V) is out of the question
- and for whom it is not reasonable to raise the funds for the necessary assistance from income and assets.
- You contact the social welfare office responsible for you. There you can ask for advice and support or submit an informal application.
- The competent authority will ask you to fill in a form and, if necessary, submit further documents.
- If all documents are available, the social welfare office will check on the basis of your information whether or to what extent you will receive help with your health.
- After reviewing your application, you will receive a notification of approval or rejection.
As a rule, a decision on the application will be taken as soon as possible, especially if there is urgency. However, the processing time depends on the individual case and, inter alia, on the completeness of the information and the submission of the evidence required for the processing of the application.
There are no deadlines to be observed. However, the competent social assistance institution can only grant assistance after it has become aware of the need. Therefore, it is important to submit an application as soon as possible and to comply with the deadlines set by the social welfare office for the submission of documents.
An objection may be lodged against decisions of the competent social assistance institutions within one month of notification.
After completion of the opposition proceedings by means of an objection decision, an action may be brought before the Social Court within one month of notification.
