The THW has technical equipment and expert personnel at its disposal for special damage situations. If personnel, technical or logistical support is needed, THW can be called upon at the request of the local and state authorities responsible for hazard prevention. This is usually done via the responsible control centre.

As a rule, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) subordinates its task forces to the local fire brigade command. The THW is organised and organised uniformly throughout Germany and is therefore a reliable partner. Contact persons are available at all levels. Cases of damage are also conceivable in which the THW establishes its own command post (for example, in case of transfer of an own operation section to the THW). THW sends professionally qualified advisory personnel to the staffs of the authorities responsible for hazard prevention and to the operational command. THW can be responsible for the command of its own units.

For partners: the THW's operations are usually settled according to the applicable settlement regulation. Information on this can be obtained in advance from the regional offices and local associations of the THW.

To request the Federal Agency for Technical Relief, contact the responsible operations control centre or call the emergency number 112. In the event of an operation, the THW units are always subordinate to the local operation command and receive their operation orders from it. Other technical assistance and the associated costs can be obtained from the local association or a THW regional office.
