You can report the loss or theft of your ID card either to an identity card authority or a citizens' office or a police station. The employees of the respective authority immediately arrange for the online ID card to be blocked and inform each other (the police and the identity card authority or the citizens' office) about the loss or theft of the identity document.
If you want to have your online ID blocked for other reasons, you can also have it blocked by calling the blocking hotline.
The blocking ensures that any attempt at abuse is detected immediately. Online identification and on-site reading are no longer possible after blocking.
Important:
To call the blocking hotline, the personal blocking password is required (was communicated in the PIN letter). If this is not the case, the blocking password can be requested from the identity card authority where the ID card was requested. This requires personal appearance and proof of identity.
- The blocking is free of charge
- Costs for calling the blocking hotline: From Germany, the blocking hotline 116 116 can be used free of charge from landlines and all mobile networks.
From abroad, the blocking hotline can be reached with the German country code, i.e. via +49 116 116 for a fee. In addition, the blocking emergency call can also be reached via +49 30 - 40 50 40 50.
