Bewerbung für das Deutschlandstipendium

Since the summer semester 2011, students of all nationalities can apply for a Deutschlandstipendium. The aim is to support talented and high-performing applicants as well as students in advanced semesters. In addition to school achievements, social commitment as well as special personal achievements should be taken into account. The scholarship is paid independently of other benefits, such as BAföG or the income of the parents. Unlike other benefits, the scholarship does not have to be repaid. The scholarship holders are supported monthly with a contribution of 300.00 euros.

Currently, 1 percent of students in Germany can receive a scholarship. Over the next few years, this share is to gradually increase to 8 percent in Germany, which would be up to 160,000 scholarships.

The scholarship is financed in equal parts by federal funds and private sponsors, in particular from industry. The aim is to establish a new scholarship and support culture in Germany.

The funding is aimed at students and applicants who demonstrate outstanding achievements in their training and social commitment. Among other things, the following shall be taken into account:

• Your grades from the university entrance qualification or achievements already achieved in your studies
• Your involvement in association, politics or church
• Your private environment, such as special biographical obstacles, the upbringing of your own children or the care of relatives as well as your participation in the parental business

When awarding the Deutschlandstipendium, not only your academic achievements count, your entire personality should be included here!

If you have not yet received any material support from a gifted organisation that exceeds 30.00 euros per month, you can apply for the Deutschlandstipendium.

A selection committee of your university or state-approved educational institution decides on the awarding of scholarships. This is made up of employees of the university itself and – if provided by the university – sponsors of the scholarship from the private sector.

If the scholarship is approved, you will receive funding over 2 semesters. The university then checks again whether the requirements for the scholarship are still fulfilled and whether the scholarship can be extended – ideally until the end of the standard period of study. However, there is no legal entitlement to a scholarship or its continued payment.

Other

Half of the study funds are provided by the federal government and half by private donors. Companies, foundations, alumni or even private individuals who participate in the promotion of young talents through a university can present themselves as sponsors on the pages of the universities and under www.deutschland-stipendium.de.
