On the basis of Regulation (EU) 764/2008, which was/will be replaced by Regulation (EU) 2019/515 from 19.04.2020, product contact points have been established EU-wide for products for which harmonised rules are not yet in place.
The Product Contact Points inform you about national regulations that must be observed if you wish to place products from another member state on the market in Germany. The Product Contact Points are responsible for all products with the exception of construction products.
Information on construction products can be obtained from the Product Contact Point for Construction at Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik.
For all other products, the Product Contact Points of the Federal Institute for Agriculture and Food / Produktinfostellen der Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung (BLE) and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing / Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) are responsible.
At the Product Contact Point of the BLE, which is responsible for the agricultural and fishery sector as well as consumer goods, you will receive information about the marketing of these products in Germany, as well as about the relevant technical rules.
At the product information center of the BAM you will receive information about national technical regulations for products that have not yet been harmonized at the European level. All products that are not covered by the other two Product Contact Points (construction products, agricultural products/fishery products/consumables) are dealt with there.
At the Product Contact Points, you can also obtain information on the principle of mutual recognition and on the application of Regulation (EU) 2019/515 in Germany.
