Under certain conditions, you can obtain a permit to operate an insemination station or embryo collection unit.
If you want to operate a national insemination station or embryo collection unit for cattle, pigs, sheep, goats or equidae, you need a permit in accordance with the Animal Breeding Act.
The permit is issued if
- a veterinarian is responsible for the veterinary and technical management of the facility or the performance of the veterinary and technical tasks is guaranteed by a veterinarian who is contractually bound to the insemination station,
- the personnel required for proper operation are available,
- the facilities required for the collection, processing, storage and delivery of oocytes and embryos are available at an embryo collection team,
- the facilities required for the collection, treatment, storage and delivery of semen or embryos are available at an insemination station, and
- the male breeding animals are available at an insemination station.
The permit relates to the respective facility with its operating units and to the respective animal species. It is generally granted for 10 years. It can then be reissued.
- Your facility is located in Germany.
- You can ensure that the animal health requirements necessary to keep livestock healthy are met.
- You can ensure that a veterinarian is responsible for the veterinary and technical management of the facility or that the veterinary technical requirements are carried out by a contractually bound veterinarian.
- Your company employs sufficient staff to meet the requirements for operating a national semen collection center.
- You store and label semen accordingly to avoid confusion.
- You keep records of the collection, treatment, storage, delivery and destruction of semen, ova and embryos.
- Your business has the premises and equipment listed in the Animal Breeding Implementation Ordinance.
- For the authorization of an insemination station: You keep at least two donor animals.
You must apply in writing to the animal breeding authority responsible for the location of the facility for permission to operate:
- Submit an informal application for the relevant operating permit with the required information.
- Send the informal application and all required documents to the competent authority.
- The recognition requirements will be checked during an on-site inspection.
- The competent authority then decides on the permit and sends the corresponding notification to the applicant. The permit may be issued subject to conditions.
Antragsfrist: 8 Woche(n)
The permit should be applied for no later than 8 weeks before the planned commencement of operations or before the previous permit expires.
