German schools abroad are privately run schools. The sponsoring associations manage and administer the schools on their own responsibility. In addition, the schools receive financial and personnel support from the Federal Foreign Office. When the German Schools Abroad Act (ASchulG) came into force on January 1, 2014, funding for German schools abroad was given a legal basis for the first time.
