If you wish to change or extend your public appointment or swearing-in as an expert, you must apply to the competent authority.

The application must be accompanied by appropriate proof of professional qualification and, depending on the subject area, a corresponding number of expert opinions in accordance with the specifications in the professional appointment requirements for the subject area. If there are no professional appointment requirements for the subject area or if the professional appointment requirements do not specify the number of expert opinions to be submitted, at least two recent expert opinions (not older than three years), each in triplicate, with different assessment problems from the subject area must be enclosed.

• There must be a need for expert services in the field for which a public appointment is requested (abstract need)
• You have sufficient life and professional experience
• There are no concerns about your personal suitability
• You can provide evidence of significantly above-average specialist knowledge, practical experience and the ability to provide expert opinions
• You have the necessary facilities and equipment to carry out your work as a publicly appointed expert
• You live in orderly financial circumstances
• You offer a guarantee of impartiality and independence as well as compliance with the duties of publicly appointed experts
• You can prove that you have relevant knowledge of German law and the ability to explain technical findings and assessments in a comprehensible manner
• You have the necessary mental and physical capacity to meet the requirements of the subject area applied for

If you are in an employment or service relationship, the following requirements also apply:

• You can prove that you can perform your expert activities independently, without instructions, personally, impartially and with priority over other activities,
• you are not subject to any professional instructions, including those of your employer, when carrying out your expert activities in individual cases, you can sign your expert reports yourself and stamp them with the round stamp awarded to you and

you are released by your employer to the extent necessary for your expert activities.

• After you have submitted the application for a change or extension, the competent authority will check whether all the necessary requirements have been met. If all requirements are met, the public appointment or swearing-in will be extended or amended.
• If necessary, the application will be discussed with the expert committee before a decision is made. In the case of applications for an extension for the areas of valuation and compensation in agricultural, horticultural, forestry and fisheries operations, a technical discussion is usually held with members of the expert panel before a decision is made.
• If the application for an extension of the public appointment is for a different area of expertise than before, the procedure is the same as for an initial appointment.

The application for extension must be submitted in writing to the Chamber of Agriculture at least three months before the expiry of the appointment.
