If you run a forest seed or forest plant business and wish to place forest reproductive material on the market, you must register it with the State Office for Forest Reproductive Material.

Ensuring the identity of forest reproductive material is of fundamental importance for the forestry industry. For this reason, strict requirements are imposed on companies when producing and marketing forest reproductive material in accordance with the Forest Reproductive Material Act (FoVG). The state authorities are responsible for monitoring compliance with these regulations. Accordingly, you must register your company operating in this area.

If the requirements are met, your business will be approved. It will then receive a farm number. This is reported to the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) and kept in a nationwide register. You must state the farm number on all delivery documents accompanying the propagation material.

In order for your company to be approved as a forest seed or forest plant company

• the person responsible under the FoVG must be reliable and have the necessary technical knowledge and experience

(The minimum qualification requirements are those that are necessary with regard to the required technical equipment and for the activities actually carried out by the operation. The legal and technical (e.g. botanical) knowledge required for the respective activity must be available in accordance with the respective operating conditions).

What these are in individual cases depends on the type of operation applied for.

Types of business can be

• Klenge,
• forest nursery,
• forest owner,
• seed and planting stock company,
• trader of propagation material,
• Harvester of propagation material.

You can submit your notification in writing or electronically.

Once you have submitted the application and all documents are complete, the competent authority will check whether all requirements for notification in accordance with Section 17 (1) FoVG have been met.

If the requirements are met according to the documents, the company will be inspected during an on-site visit and the person responsible will be interviewed.

If this does not give rise to any obstacles, you will then receive your company number in accordance with the FoVG and instructions on the management of the company. At the same time, the new farm registration is reported to the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) for entry in the national register and the farm number is entered in the national approval register.

The notification must be made within one month of the commencement or termination of the operation, but in any case before the first marketing of forest reproductive material with a delivery bill.
