Would you like to take part in an event with a classic car or carry out a test, transfer or workshop drive? Then you can apply for a red classic car license plate for these trips.

If you are taking part in an event with your vehicle where the focus is on the presentation and care of historic vehicles, you can apply for a red classic car license plate for your classic car. An operating license and registration for the vehicle are not required. You can also use the red classic car license plate for the following cases:

• Test drives and transfer journeys,
• workshop visits and
• trips to refuel and for exterior cleaning.

The red classic car license plate is therefore an alternative to the H license plate for the special occasions mentioned above. Everyday driving is not permitted with the license plate.

The red classic car license plate consists of a distinguishing license plate and an identification number, which always begins with "07". The red classic car license plate is an interchangeable license plate. This means that you can register several historic vehicles with one license plate and drive them alternately. However, you may not use several vehicles at the same time.

In addition to the red classic car license plate, you will also receive a vehicle registration booklet. You must carry this with you on every journey. You must keep continuous records of all journeys in a logbook. You must note the following:

• The day of the journey, its start and end,
• the driver of the vehicle (surname, first name) with address,
• the type and manufacturer of the vehicle,
• the chassis number and
• the distance traveled.

You can make the entries after the journeys. You do not have to carry the logbook with you.

• To participate in classic car exhibitions, vehicle owners can apply for a red classic car license plate (07 license plate) for their vehicle
• Operating license or registration is not required
• The red classic car license plate also allows the following journeys:
  • Test drives
  • Transfer journeys
  • workshop trips
  • Trips for refueling and exterior cleaning
• In addition to the license plate number, the vehicle owner also receives a vehicle registration booklet, which he or she must carry with him or her on every journey
• Keeping a driver's logbook is mandatory
