§ 1 Paragraph 1 Occupational Therapists Act

If you want to use the job title "occupational therapist", you need a license.

Working as an occupational therapist is regulated in Germany.

This means that in order to work as an occupational therapist in Germany, you must apply for a state license. With this permit, you can use the job title "occupational therapist" and work in the profession.

You will need the following documents to process the application:

• Proof of the state examination certificate confirming that the training period prescribed by the relevant law has been completed and the state examination has been passed or the decision on the equivalence of the foreign professional qualification
• Proof of reliability; this is the confirmation that you have not been guilty of any behavior that would make you unreliable to practice the profession. This can be done by submitting an official certificate of good conduct for submission to the authorities, not older than 3 months when the permit is issued
• a medical certificate stating that you are not medically unfit to practise the profession
• confirmation that you have the necessary knowledge of the German language to carry out the professional activity

Permission is granted if you

• have completed the vocational or higher education training prescribed by this Act and have passed the state final examination
• have not been guilty of any conduct that makes you unreliable to practice the profession,
• are not unfit in terms of health to practise the profession
• have the necessary knowledge of the German language to practise the profession

Is based on the respective administrative fee schedule of the federal state or on the fee statutes of the authorities responsible under federal state law.

You must apply for the permit from the competent authority.

Once you have submitted the application and all documents are complete, the competent authority will check whether you meet all the requirements.

If you meet all the requirements, you will receive the permit.

You may only start working once you have received the permit.

If the documents are complete, your application will be processed promptly.

There are no deadlines to be observed.
