If you are studying in an EU country, are recognized there as a person entitled to international protection and would like to continue your studies in Germany, you can apply for a residence permit.

If you are recognized as a person entitled to international protection in another member state of the European Union (EU) and have been studying there for at least 2 years, you can obtain a residence permit to continue your studies in Germany.

You will need proof that part of your studies are being carried out at a German educational institution (usually a university), as well as admission to this educational institution.

The residence permit is temporary and valid for the duration of your studies in Germany.

With the residence permit you have received for the purpose of your studies, you may work up to 120 days or 240 half days per year. You can also work part-time as a student.

• Appeal against the decision of the immigration authority
• Legal action before the court named in the notice of objection if the objection is not upheld

• Applying for a residence permit to continue studies started in another EU country
• Students from a country outside the European Union (EU) who have been studying in another EU member state for at least 2 years and are recognized there as a person entitled to protection can obtain a residence permit to continue their studies in Germany
• there must be proof that part of the course of study is being carried out at a German educational institution. Admission must be granted
• the residence permit is valid for the duration of studies in Germany
• the residence permit entitles the holder to work for up to 120 days or 240 half days per year as well as for secondary student activities
• Issuance of the residence permit is subject to a fee
